Abstract

Background: Intracranial internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection is an uncommon cause of cerebral infarction, compared with the dissection of the ICA¡¯s cervical portion. Moreover, in elderly patients with stroke, intracranial artery dissection was seldom reported as a cause of stroke.
Case Report: We describe two elderly patients with intracranial artery dissection at unusual site which is preceded by a trivial head trauma. 3D CT angiography was performed to verify dissection in both patients.
Conclusion: Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of artery dissection also in elderly patient, and CT angiography could be a less invasive and fair diagnostic method.
